A Winter Paradise Woven with Pristine Powder Snow and Breathtaking Scenery

Located on the northeastern slope of Mt. Asaridake, Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort is known for having some of the best powder snow in all of Japan. With slopes that cater to everyone from beginners to experts, visitors can enjoy natural snow from mid-November through Golden Week in May.

The resort offers a full range of rental gear, making it easy to enjoy skiing or snowboarding without bringing your own equipment. For families and first-timers, the snow park features a snow escalator and fun, beginner-friendly activities.

Food is another highlight of the resort. Don’t miss the freshly baked pizza or the soft-serve ice cream served at the summit café. One must-try dish is the resort’s signature “Kokusai Curry Ramen”, famous for its hearty flavor and generous portion size.

Even if you don’t ski or snowboard, the Sky Cabin round-trip gondola lets you experience stunning panoramic views of the Ishikari Bay and the magical winter scenery, including juhyo — also known as “ice monsters” or “snow-covered trees”.

What is juhyo?
Juhyo is a rare winter phenomenon where water droplets in freezing air crystallize and cling to trees, creating a surreal, icy landscape. It typically appears on extremely cold mornings or evenings when temperatures stay below zero throughout the day.

Summit Viewing Plaza & Snow Play Area

The Summit Viewing Plaza, located just behind the summit café, is the highest point of the ski resort. Here, you’ll find snow huts and a torii gate, with an incredible panoramic view of Ishikari Bay through the frost-covered trees (juhyo).
The Snow Play Area is situated near the Center Lodge and Sky Cabin station at the base of the mountain, making it easily accessible without needing a lift or gondola. Packed with fun family-friendly activities like snow racers and snow rafting, it’s perfect for parents and kids alike. One highlight is the “snowboard with a bar,” ideal for beginners trying snowboarding for the first time.
