Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort／Approx. 30 min. by car
A ski resort located in the Jozankei area. The abundance of powder snow that can be enjoyed for long periods of time despite its location within the city, makes it popular among locals and tourists alike. Located on the northeastern side of Mt. Asari (1,286 m), the summit is 1,100 m above sea level. The resort boasts a number of long and varied courses suitable for all abilities, from novices to experts. Both powder-runs and groomed pistes can be enjoyed.
Sapporo Teine／Approx. 80 min. by car
(1972 Sapporo Winter Olympic Games course)
Located just 15 km from downtown Sapporo, 1,023 m-high Mt. Teine is popular among local residents, and was also the venue for some of the Alpine Skiing events at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympic Games. Its appeal lies in the views of the city and, weather permitting, the Daisetsu Mountains in the distance, which can be seen from the summit. A total of 15 courses provide enjoyment for novices through to experts. Skiing and snowboarding are possible until mid-May. Ski and snowboard rentals include a range of standard and high-performance models.

Four ski areas with a variety of features are located at the foot of the 1,308-m-high Mt. Annupuri.
Enjoy powder snow as it sprays above your head, while taking in views of Mt. Yotei. The Niseko area, which is synonymous with JAPOW, offers a rich variety of courses with plenty of powder to satisfy even the most expert skiers. The dryness of the snow experienced during nighttime skiing differs from that of daytime skiing.
Rusutsu Resort／Approx. 50 min. by car
Comprising Mt. Isola (994 m), East Mt. (868 m) and West Mt. (715 m), the resort boasts 37 courses, including ungroomed runs where more experienced skiers/boarders can enjoy dry powder. “Mountain Guiding,” aimed at experts, allows skiers and boarders to enjoy the slopes together (1–6 people).
Kiroro Resort／Approx. 80 min. by car
Located on the western side of Mt Asari, on the other side of which is Sapporo Kokusai, this resort boasts a long ridge two peaks. An “off-piste” area opens when weather and conditions allow. There is a “Kiroro & Sapporo Kokusai Common 1-day Pass,” allowing those staying in Jozankei for long periods to make the most of both resorts. Enjoy high-quality powder snow from the beginning of the season until March.

SAPPORO BANKEI SKI AREA／Approx. 50 min. by car
Wakuwaku Snowland, where visitors can enjoy snow-based fun other than skiing and snowboarding – such as snow tubing and snow Striders – is ideal for making your snow-mountain debut. A wide variety of courses are available, from those that can be enjoyed by novices, to those aimed at experts, such as an FIS-certified mogul course and one of the largest half pipes in Japan, both of which were used as venues during the Sapporo 2017 Asian Winter Games. The ski area is also popular among locals, as it offers more challenging pistes as your skills improve.
Sapporo Moiwayama Ski Area／Approx. 40 min. by car
As the closest ski resort to downtown Sapporo, it has been popular among locals since it opened in 1960. Snowboarding is prohibited, and the ski lessons of elementary and junior high schools in Sapporo are held there. The “Kanko-doro Course,” which is approximately 2.6 km long and has a maximum incline of 7 degrees, is recommended. The toll-road that leads up Mt. Moiwa in summer can be skied down in winter and, at night, Sapporo’s popular nighttime views can also be enjoyed while skiing.
Fu’s Snow Area／Approx. 20 min. by car
The closest ski resort to Jozankei Onsen, Fu’s boasts a full lineup of rental equipment for both skiers and snowboarders, as well as a range of steep and gentle slopes. The gentle slopes at the bottom of the mountain are ideal for making your snowboard debut and, indeed, many children hone their skills there. The luge course, which along with Nagano is one of only two in Japan, was established as a training course for the 1972 Sapporo Olympics, and it is still possible to experience the sport there.
Takino Snow World／Approx. 50 min. by car
Takino Suzuran Hillside Park, popular for its vast fields of flowers that bloom from spring to autumn, is transformed into Takino Snow World in winter. The 250 m-long slope, with a maximum incline of 7 degrees, is perfect for small children making their debut. In addition, there is also a 200-m long tube sledding slope, which is very popular among adults, too. Cross-country ski and snowshoe trails are also available for hiking in the winter forest. All gear is available for rent.

First, enjoy powder runs at Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort,
the closest snow resort to Jozankei Onsen. Depending on the weather, you could wait until the afternoon before setting out. If the weather is fine, check out the views of Ishikari Bay from the summit, and ski or board amid a panorama lined with beautiful ice-covered trees.

Arrive at the accommodation in Jozankei and check in.
Warm yourself at the hot-spring inn of your choice.

For example, Niseko. If you want to carve out the first tracks, it’s best to arrive by 8:00. At Grand Hirafu, most courses are open for nighttime skiing (16:30 – 19:00), so a moonlit night-run is recommended.

Arrive back at your accommodation in Jozankei
Enjoy a tour of the two footbaths in the spa resort. Dip your feet in the hot water and your whole body warms up naturally. You can also take a dip in the hot-spring bath at your accommodation, enjoy esthetic treatment or a massage, or spend a relaxing time in the sauna.
The “Sozoro-aruki” walk around the onsen resort is also recommended.
